OUR ORIGIN STORY

Meet the Owner | Brennyn Torres

Brennyn Torres grew up surrounded by leaders in the crafting industry and doesn't remember a time without crafts in the home. Arts and crafts are a family affair which includes her aunt Sherri Haab, and mom Laura Torres. Sherri and Laura have sold millions of how-to and do-it-yourself craft books with a world-famous publisher. Laura continues to host craft videos on her YouTube channel. Crafting as a child inspired Brennyn to continue in the arts, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from BYU-Idaho in 2013. Brennyn has had her artwork shown in several galleries in the West Coast, and illustrates often, including clip art for education material. Brennyn loves how her mom and aunt create for both kids and fine artists alike and wants to continue the tradition with one of her childhood favorites- shrink art! Brennyn continues to illustrate most of the .PDF download artwork and images for the company. The versatility and appeal of shrink art to all ages, and endless possibilities of Shrinktastic Plastic is exciting to share with fellow crafters!

Sherri Haab is a freelance illustrator and jewelry and craft designer who founded Shrinktastic Plastic. She has since transitioned the Shrinktastic Plastic company over to her niece, Brennyn Torres. Sherri is known for tracking trends in the craft industry and educating consumers about how to use new products and techniques. Plastic shrink art is a medium favorite for Sherri as she remembers using the form in the early 1970s. Sherri remembers going to the butchers with her mother to go buy "liver lids." The lids were clear plastic with red stripes along the edge. Liver used to come in the plastic container that the lid fit, and Sherri's mother would purchase sets of the lids. They used the lids to craft shrink art and copy comic book characters with permanent markers at home. When heated in the oven, the lids would shrink into pendant-sized pieces with red and white candy-striped borders. She remembers making shrink art jewelry before shrink art supplies were sold in stores, often punching holes and attaching the pendants to charm bracelets. Sherri founded Shrinktastic Plastic, and hopes to spread the same joy she had as a child through shrink art.
